Deafhood: Concept! NOT Label!
by webmaster on Aug.15, 2008, under Politics
Hi there,
This is my response to people who feel that I labelled people Deafhood. And also to people who have accused Deafhood as a cult. Deafhood is just a concept. No one on earth is deafhood or deafness.
To make it clear is that I do not label people at all. I realize that some people got wrong information because of one person who has made many people confused. I am extremely concerned about that.
I will be away today for camping and won’t be back till Sunday. I may be able to post your comments on Sunday or Monday.
I have learnt my lesson. There will be NO personal insulting in any response. This is about the Deafhood and my perspective nothing more nothing less.
I want you to be aware is that I have every right to reject or accept if there is any insulting or fighing (more of domestic fights) You know police officers dread that job so am I. That applies to any of you (even my closest friends, strangers, supporters, opposers). I may have every right to do whatever I decide as it is my vlog/blog.
I hope my comment will help all of us to understand and learn more aobut Deafhood. I am still learner and I am no expert. It is based on my personal research (I have two Deafhood books and people). I am more than happy to be corrected or criticized properly.
If your comment is not there, you must remember that I feel it is not appropriate and please respect my decision. I know it is not easy to make decision but somebody has to do that. Smile
Have a great weekend!
Thanks

This is based on my view. I am no Deafhood expert. Based on my Deafhood book and some discussion with friends/experts, I have decided to make a comment about circle video meetings that I find very interesting.
Your inputs are always welcome except negative attacks and irrelevant responses. Constructive discussions (agree or disagree) will be published.
Thanks

DBC: Bilingual Movement!
by webmaster on Aug.06, 2008, under ASL
This morning, I went to store to buy a bottle of water. I saw much fewer advertisements of cigarette brands in the store. More and more people are non smokers and former smokers because of their anti-smoking awareness.
It just popped up in my mind. There have been many movements against smoking companies and their allies (tobacco industries, politicians, investors). They have succeeded in making smoking companies to admit that smoking habits are dangerous.
Anti smoking groups, who have fought against smoking, tend to have bad experiences such as death in their families, or health problems. They also have promoted wellness by marketing healthy lifestyle (exercises, dietary) and educate parents and their children about smoking so that the children will not go through what they already went through.
In the past, society tended to accept smoking as part of society. However, now, smoking is no longer acceptable in our current society. How did that happen? It is all about evidence, statistics, documents, results, reports, wellness, healthy information and many more.
That applies to Deaf movements. They are fighting against anti ASL/Bilingual methods of AGBell and its allies (anti ASL people, anti Bilingual supporters, anti Bilingual/ASL schools, strict AVT supporters, investors, other companies against ASL and Bilingualism) and are promoting Bilingualism/ASL for Deaf babies and their parents. I think DBC is the first movement to approach AGBell and giants assertively to prove that their anti ASL/Bilingual methods have caused so many serious problems and has created unhealthy practices for Deaf community since the late 19th century. DBC also appears to be the first movement to promote Bilingual approach for Deaf babies and their parents.
Now about DBC, it has used same approaches of anti smoking movements. One approach is about fighting against the methods of AGBell and its allies and another approach is about promoting wellness of Deaf lifestyles and ASL/Bilingualism
I think “Fighting for a good cause and promoting healthy lifestyle of ASL and Bilingualism” is the best practices of all. In my opinion, the concept of fighting without promoting or promoting without fighting is not a good practice.
